On September 17, Shanghai Design organized by the Shanghai & Florence Sino-Italian Design Exchange Center kicked off in Florence base. It was one of the activities of the Tour of International Cooperation during 2013 Shanghai Design Week and also the first show of Shanghai & Florence Sino-Italian Design Exchange Center’s Florence base.
Shanghai Design, the City of Design mainly displayed the history and achievements of the design industry of Shanghai, the City of Design. The show included displaying, representative companies, industrial talents, activities and cooperation and exchange. It was a selected show of Shanghai design and creative industries in Italy. Located in the Florence base of Shanghai & Florence Sino-Italian Design Exchange Center, the opening ceremony attracted more than 50 companies from both China and Italy. Cristina Giachi, the Vice Mayor Florence, Simone Tani, the Manager of Florence’s Economic Development Office, Mrs. Lin Yi, the Director of the Division of Metropolitan Industry of Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Casermatization and James Wan, Dobe Group’s CEO, attended the opening ceremony.
In the opening ceremony, Director Lin said, “Today we bring Shanghai's design industry to Florence. We hope the show in Palazzo Strozzi can give Italian friends more direct feelings and understanding of Shanghai, the City of Design. And Shanghai’s entrepreneurs, by coming to the Florence base of Shanghai & Florence Sino-Italian Design Exchange Center, can be more confident to go out and promote Shanghai’s creative design to Florence and to Italy.”
CEO James.Wan said, Shanghai & Florence Sino-Italian Design Exchange Center is being built as planned. We hope it can be a guide for Chinese enterprises to go into overseas markets. The Sino-Italian cooperation will thus seethe second peak after the era of Marco Polo.”
This show planned to organize regular exhibitions of Shanghai’s design firms and cooperation forums in the future. It is expected to promote Shanghai’s design industry to the entire Europe making use of Italy’s location and its special status in the fields of design and fashion. The show will last for seven days and end on September 24.
