On Mar. 22, the unveiling ceremony of DoBe WE @Shanghai Bookstore was successfully held. Upon the unveiling and the release of the park spatial map, DoBe WE @Shanghai Bookstore Century Digital Cultural Innovation Center officially made its debut to the public after more than a year of renovation.
DoBe WE @Shanghai Bookstore is located at No.136 Hubei Road, Huangpu District, formerly known as the Century Publishing Building, adjacent to Fuzhou Road and next to the Shanghai Bookstore. Fuzhou Road and Shanghai Bookstore are indelible cultural symbols in Shanghai. The transformation of Shanghai Bookstore, a landmark of the century-old Fuzhou, has been much concerned by countless Shanghai citizens. In 2022, DoBe Group, in collaboration with Shanghai Century Publishing (Group) Co., Ltd., launched DoBe WE @Shanghai Bookstore, closely following the renovation plan of the latter and kicking off a rapid and simultaneous update process.
DoBe WE @Shanghai Bookstore has a total construction area of 29,000 square meters and was renovated to inherit the literary essence, create a comfortable, creative and multi-dimensional office space, and build a highland for cultural and digital industries in the future.
When discussing the design and renovation concept, the project's chief architect and wutopia lab's lead designer, Yu Ting, gave a comprehensive interpretation. According to him, paper books are the conventional media bearing human culture and history, while electronic media represent the future ones. Therefore, in the design, the binary perforated texture representing electronic media is spread throughout the whole facade, forming a "digital flow electronic rain" in an orderly and dense manner, like the ebb and flow of symphonic musical rhythms. The light shines through holes like the aurora, and the streamlined metal bookshelves form a "knowledge waterfall". The electronic LED screen located at the boundary of the garden, in response to the one inside the building with red displays on the LED, is a symbolic tribute from the present to the future. All the designs represent the cultural confidence of the city.
Besides, the functionality of resetting the space according to the working time and needs of white collars lies at the core of the business plan of DoBe WE @Shanghai Bookstore. Interiorly, it incorporates various scenes of traditional parks, creating a vertical spatial form.
The map of the park was also released during the night event, covering sky gardens, white-collar cheer station, and a variety of scenes desired by enterprises. For example, the open outdoor and shared lobby on the first floor is a "pocket park" condensing the centurial culture of Fuzhou Road; the "sky cheer station" on the 12th floor is equipped with a half-floor meeting space for brand and art exhibitions, creating a gathering center for entrepreneurs; and the literati lounge on the 30th floor serves as an aerial publishing corridor open to all publishers, authors, works distributors and park enterprises.
In addition to the cultural and creative office space, in order to better serve enterprises and white-collar workers, the building provides services throughout the working hours, including dual coffee spaces in the low and high floors, fitness and personal training facilities, a whole-floor yoga studio, and occupational disease prevention and control. With all these, it defines a new way of life for cultural and creative office workers.
Regarding investment promotion, DoBe WE @Shanghai Bookstore leverages its location advantages and industry orientation of the Huangpu District. Specifically, by introducing high-quality cultural enterprises and resources at home and abroad, it is committed to attract enterprises engaging in cultural innovation, digital media and professional services. Currently, a number of outstanding cultural and creative enterprises such as Xiongshida, Innersect, Sneakercon, and Mad Man have made their establishment there. In the future, work will be done to attract leading enterprises and upstream and downstream service enterprises in industries such as cultural creativity, advertising planning, trendy culture, and digital technology.
During the ceremony, leaders from Huangpu District Business Committee, Huangpu District Culture and Tourism Bureau, Huangpu Association for Science and Technology, as well as Shanghai Century Publishing (Group) Co., Ltd. and DoBe Group, witnessed the unveiling of the project design. A hanging lamp blessing ceremony was also held with the participation of park enterprises, architects, and other project collaborators. At the same time, the art exhibition titled Jing Ni Shi Ge Han Zi by Zhu Jingyi held on the 30th floor of the park also made a mid-term update on the day of the ceremony.
